Just in case anyone is wondering, you flip the image to check for symmetry.  If the image doesn't look right flipped the other way around, something isn't right.  This also goes for drawing issues; most commonly with eyes.  If you can draw one eye really well and the other one just isn't looking right, flip the canvas vertically and then draw it.  The side that you're getting the better results from is your more dominant side, so in a nutshell, that's why you do so well with one side and not as well with the other side.

Very interesting.  Maybe a little too much digital in the digital art, but still good to know until I grow into it.  Thanks very much for posting it. :D

OMW! :la:
Please keep making tutorials this is sooo helpful and really happy you add commentary letting watchers know what you`re doing, cause sometimes when I watch others tutorials they only draw and don't give any advice.
But next time can you please go into more detail about the curve tool as i have no clue how to use it ^^;
Super super happy you made this :happybounce: :happybounce: :happybounce:
erineclair Featured By Owner Oct 19, 2015  Hobbyist General Artist
this so helpful! i've noticed most of the artists use dark desaturated colors for color blocking. i guess it helps that way though i'm scared to try because it always end up messy on my part. but thanks to this i've learned something, so I'll definitely note those things and try them on my artworks =D also yeah it helps if you keep on flippin your artwork to see if things are balanced in your canvas XD thank you so much for sharing this!
Mines-Dahka Featured By Owner Oct 19, 2015
I would really like to know why you started with black and corrected the color with curves instead of starting with the red you ended up with?

And yes please more!
ventimocha Featured By Owner Oct 18, 2015
Amazing! It's so helpful. Every time I see you art I never bothered to figure out how you do it because you are inhumanly good. I never considered it's possible for me to be half your level. It's great to watch you start from a blank canvas, rough line work, color blocking and so on. Gives me some hope that I might be able to do something like that one day.

Please do more!
PASTEL-FLO Featured By Owner Oct 18, 2015
Wow. There's already hours worth of practice I need to do just based on your "rough lines" stage haha.

Really neat tutorial, thanks for putting it together.
Laya-DragonAngel Featured By Owner Oct 18, 2015  Professional Artist
That was really informative!  Most of these videos that I watch don't give you the tips and what tools and brushes are good to use. :)   I would like to know more about how you end up with such a smooth face - I know there is a "smoothing" brush tool but it looks so good!  I know it has a lot to do with lighting and shading but in the start it looked like brush strokes and at the end it's smooth skin...

Thank you for sharing. ^_^

Amazing! Love your persistence and patience and learned a TON of new things. I didn't know liquify and field blur even existed (I need to explore Photoshop more =_=) and seeing you used them made me realize how much time I could potentially have saved in my previous projects D:
